Spring Dinner Social
May 2009
The Preservation Society held its Spring Dinner
Social on Thursday, May 14th at Road America concurrent with the SVRA Spring
vintage race weekend. Like the Fall 2008 Meeting, the meeting was held at Road
America in the Drivers Meeting Room adjacent to the Paddock. Sixty-three members
and guests enjoyed comradeship around a cash bar and a delicious buffet dinner
provided by Millhome Supper Club. Road America Hospitality Coordinator, Gail
Bartelt, did her usual outstanding job of coordinating with Laura Meyers and
everything required for a successful meeting was in place when the cash bar
opened at 6pm.

The meeting program featured a presentation
covering the history of the Meister Brauser Chaparral 1 currently owned and
raced by Tom Hollfelder and previously campaigned by Augie Pabst for the
Meister Brauser Race Team. The early spring evening weather cooperated
perfectly and the car meticulously and beautifully restored to full race
condition, was on display for Society members and their guests to inspect and
admire

After dinner was cleared, Tom took the group
through the pre-history and history of the Chaparral 1 as well as the fate of
the other chaparral models. His presentation was titled “The Creation,
Destruction and Resurrection of the Chaparral 1”. Although Tom’s presentation
had been painstakingly and thoroughly researched, it was fortunate that
Preservation Society Founding and Supporting Member, Augie Pabst was present to
him help him “get the history straight”. This led to a great deal of repartee
back and forth between Tom and Augie, much to the delight of the audience.
Everyone who attended agreed that this was one of
the best Dinner Social yet held by the Preservation Society and where looking
forward to the July Dinner Social scheduled for Thursday, July 16th concurrent
with the Kohler International Challenge race weekend.
